WHAT IS DIGITAL MATURITY?

Digital maturity indicates how the organisation deals with the organisational, informational, technological, and cultural challenges of digital transformation.

The higher the maturity level, the better the organisation is able to be successful in the digital age in which we now live.

Determining digital maturity gives an organisation a reference point in determining what next steps need to be taken to reach a higher level and thus realise the organisation's digital transformation.

DIGITAL MATURITY MODEL

The TIMAF maturity model helps determine the digital maturity of your organisation.

The model also provides support in determining what needs to be done to move to a higher level and clearly identifies what should be given priority.

FIVE LEVELS OF DIGITAL MATURITY

The TIMAF maturity model analyses the organisation on five possible maturity levels.

The five levels of the digital maturity model are: 1. Unmanaged, 2. Beginning, 3. Learning, 4. Responsive, and 5. Predictive.

LEVEL 1. Unmanaged is the level at which the organisation does little or nothing regarding a digital transformation. There are digital initiatives here and there, but these do not help or even hamper the organisation with the digital transformation.

At LEVEL 2. Beginning, the organisation has a better understanding of the importance of a digital transformation. There are a few organisation-wide digital initiatives, but they are quite ad hoc in nature.

LEVEL 3. Learning level is an important phase in the journey towards a successful digital transformation. The organisation has a clear digital strategy that it wants to work on organisation-wide. The whole organisation is ‘learning by doing’ and improving their digital efforts.

Once at LEVEL 4. Responsive, the organisation is able to listen well to the signals from different target groups and respond appropriately. The digital strategy is regularly adjusted to changing circumstances.

At the highest LEVEL 5. Predictive level the organisation is able to make fast decisions using digital tools to better serve their target groups and objectives. The organisation is continuously transforming.

DIMENSIONS OF DIGITAL MATURITY

The digital maturity of an organisation is assessed on four main dimensions: Organisation, Information, Technology, and Culture. Each main dimension consists of five dimensions.

FIRST MATURITY DIMENSION: ORGANISATION

In the main dimension of Organisation, you measure the maturity in terms of strategy, processes, collaboration, governance, and innovation.

Strategy - To what extent the organisation has a strategy that has been translated into a digital strategy and is measured and optimised for achieving success factors.

Processes - To what extent the organisation and information processes and customer and employee journeys have been mapped, connected, and optimised.

Collaboration - The degree to which employees can collaborate with colleagues and external stakeholders without limitations.

SECOND MATURITY DIMENSION: INFORMATION

In the main dimension of Information, you measure the maturity in terms of the quality of the information, semantics, data-driven work, findability, and compliance.

Quality - To what extent the quality of the information is analysed
and optimised.

2 Informatie - rond.png

Semantics - The degree to which information is provided with metadata and structure is used to make information findable, reliable, relevant and optimally manageable.

Data - The degree to which the organisation uses data to inform decision-making.

Findability - To what extent the information is visible to internal and external target groups and how that findability is optimised.

Compliance - To what extent digital accessibility, sustainable accessibility, privacy protection and other relevant laws and regulations for information are guaranteed 'by design'.

THIRD MATURITY DIMENSION: TECHNOLOGY

In the main dimension of Technology, you measure the maturity in the use of systems, architecture, lifecycle, interoperability, and usability.

Usage - The extent to which digital systems are optimally used in the organisation.

Architecture - The extent to which there is a business architecture, an information architecture, an application architecture, and a technology architecture and how they are connected to each other.

Lifecycle - The extent to which the systems optimally support the full life cycle of information management.

3 Systemen - rond.png

Interoperability - The extent to which systems are able to exchange information across any possible channel and device.

Usability - The extent to which attention is given to the accessibility and usability of the systems and the extent to which target audiences are actively involved in the design and setup of them.
